AFI Contributes to Unique Pedestrian Walkway and IAF on Sea-Tac Project with Clark Construction Group LLC
Seattle, Washington – It was an honor to have been selected by Clark Construction Group, LLC as their fireproofing subcontractor for the Sea-Tac International Airport project. Once complete, the IAF will more than double Sea-Tac’s capacity to process international passengers. Construction crews’ broke ground in March 2018, and AFI’s contribution to the project will be completed in March 2020. This new wing of the airport is projected to open to the public by Fall of 2020.
What makes this project extra special to us was being able to be a small part of the unique raised, glassed-in pedestrian walkway. Located 85 feet above the ground, Sea-Tac’s pedestrian walkway will provide a whole new experience for travelers as airliners taxi directly beneath them! This one of a kind pedestrian walkway will connect passengers from the airport’s south satellite facility to the international arrival’s facility and concourse A. The weight and size of this suspended structure will be impressive to say the least. Weighing in at 770 tons, the walkway will be 900 feet long and 330 feet at its widest point.
AFI utilized Isolatek products on the airport structure including SprayFilm WB 5, CAFCO 300, CAFCO 400, and FENDOLITE M-II. These Isolatek products, have been extensively tested for fire resistance and are rated up to 4 hours for floor assemblies, beam joists, columns and roof assemblies, walls and partitions.
On the unique pedestrian walkway, AFI utilized Carboline Company Thermo-Lag E100, an epoxy intumescent application that results in an aesthetically pleasing look and provides 1-3 hours of fire protection.
Fireproofing products AFI utilized on the Sea-Tac Pedestrian Walkway:
- Carboline Company Thermo-lag E100 was used on the V-Piers of the structure
- Isolatek International CAFCO 300 was used on the concealed interior
- Isolatek International CAFCO SprayFilm WB5 was used on the exposed interior
- Isolatek International CAFCO Fendolite M-II was used on the underside of the bridge.
